Toowoomba Micro-Businesses of The Year Steps Onto National Stage

Local Toowoomba food manufacturer, Darling Fresh Smoke Haus, is making waves on the national stage as it emerges as a finalist in three categories for the prestigious Australasian Barbecue Alliance Awards. The company’s dedication to crafting exceptional barbecue rubs and sauces has earned recognition as some of the best in Australia in this highly competitive arena.

The Australasian Barbecue Alliance (ABA) is responsible for managing all barbecue smoking competitions in Australasia, including the renowned Meatstock event. ABA has acknowledged DF Smoke Haus’s commitment to quality and innovation in the barbecue industry, awarding Finalist status from hundreds of entries, with winners announced on 15th March.

The DF Smoke Haus products being recognised are:

– Finalist, Steak Rub Category – Darling Downs Dust

– Finalist, Chicken Rub Category – JS#4 All-Rounder

– Finalist, Barbecue Sauce Category – Smoke Haus BBQ Sauce (VERY hotly contested)

With Meatstock returning to Toowoomba this March for its third year, the event’s expansion to three days reflects its growing popularity and significance within the region.

DF Smoke Haus founder Jeff Schultheiss is thrilled with making the finals of the ABA awards, and excited about the success of Meatstock in Toowoomba. “Meatstock was huge for us last year. We collaborated with Triple M to launch Darling Downs Dust, which has been a tremendous success. This year, with the event expected to be even bigger, we are thrilled to unveil two new HOT hot sauces, which our customers have been asking us for.”

The new sauce flavours are ‘Green Apple and Smoked Habanero’, and ‘Roasted Pepper and Smoked Carolina Reaper’.

The success of the local Meatstock event is a boon for Toowoomba. It has been so popular in previous years that in 2024 Meatstock Toowoomba will run for 3 days instead of the previous Friday/Saturday 2-day event.

“I was talking to the organisers last year and they are really pleased with how it’s going in Toowoomba. They love semi-regional locations, and in a move away from mega-metro they’ve moved their Melbourne event out to Bendigo with similar results.”
