CHRONICLE COLUMN: 5 May 2025 | RUN AND WON

Is it over yet?

Another election, more political skulduggery.

Personal attacks in Fowler, Dickson, in my view, lacked integrity. Leaders’ response……

I do not support doctored images and using derogatory terms without retort. Based on the reported responses to these actions from the leaders of our biggest political parties, I ponder, are they saying it is, ok?

Can you imagine, if you acted like this in your place of business? Would it be considered appropriate? What would be the outcome? Training, show cause, termination?

At least in Kooyong, Monique accepted responsibility and apologised for the corflute debacle.

Locally, we have not been immune from the political monkey business. Whether it be, personal attacks on social media channels or corflute vandalisation. All unnecessary!

It seems for some, personal insults are more important than constructive policy debate.

Want to be a politician?

Thankfully, there was some discussion on the cost of living, housing, migration, etc. But it did surprise me, as the election campaign bumbled along, drearily, that emerging matters of economic national interest, like US Government tariff impacts and national security obtained little attention.

And, selfishly, it is my view, that there was just not enough focus on small business who represent 42% of the nation’s workforce or 5 million people, who contribute to a third of the nation’s GDP.

Did any party address your concerns? What are your thoughts?
